FAMILY TOUR: BEHIND THE SCENES AT THE HISTORICAL MUSEUM Saturday, August 28, 2010 2:00-3:00 pm All ages; free and open to the public. Travel back in time and discover the treasures of our city's past in Wichita's Original City Hall built in 1890. Take a behind-the-scenes look at the building, along with the artifacts and exhibits it holds, and even tour the historic clock tower. Space is limited for this special tour.
SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM DAY Saturday, September 25, 2010 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Museum Day is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian Media in which participating museums across the country open their doors for free to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket. BIG READ WICHITA - LET'S MAKE A CAR! Saturday, October 16, 2010 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm Let's Make a Car! As part of the Big Read Wichita, families are invited to join us on the fourth floor of the Historical Museum for an up-close look at our locally-made Jones Six automobile. Kids are invited to take part in a fun craft activity and storytime as we enjoy Zora Neale Hurston's classic tall-tale "Roy Makes a Car." Free and open to the public. Space is limited. The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services designed to revitalize the role of literature in American culture and bring the transformative power of literature into the lives of citizens.
