SPECIAL EVENT – National Electric Guitar Day – Wednesday, November 27th celebrated at the Museum from 11am-4pm. Admission to this event is free to the public.
The world’s first electric guitar performances were held in Wichita in October of 1932. The Museum celebrates this historic fact with special activities and the exhibit of the earliest production Electric Guitar, a 1932 “ELECTRO” Spanish Guitar.
This instrument is one of only 5 known from the first production run of the company now known as Rickenbacker International. It was discovered locally and is presumed to have been one owned by orchestra leader Gage Brewer. It has been donated to the Museum’s permanent collection.
