The Museum’s mission involves collecting, preserving, and interpreting artifacts of significance to our local history. Beginning with a donation from the Pioneer Society of Sedgwick County in 1939, the Museum has added over 70,000 artifacts including photographs and archival material to its permanent collection. The collection plan organizes artifacts by category. Through active stewardship of the collection, the Museum preserves the stories that make up our community’s history.

These recently acquired artifacts offer a glimpse of the Museum’s extensive collection, and in turn, a glimpse of our far-reaching history. Of these widely ranging artifacts, it could be said that the locally manufactured, gas-powered pogo stick marketed as the “Hop Rod” leads the way.
