Exhibits

Explore local history through stories told with a collection of over 70,000 artifacts. A variety of exhibits featured on four floors include immersive environments as well as special and traveling exhibitions. The Museum occupies the original 1890 Wichita City Hall, an exhibit in itself!

The Museum offers visitors an encyclopedic range of artifact-based exhibits focused on local history since settlement in the 1860s. The four floors of the Museum contain dozens of exhibits with ten changing annually. The Historical Museum features immersive exhibits such as the Mayor’s Office and the Wichita Cottage, traveling exhibits, special exhibits like those found in the Museum’s lobby, and core exhibits such as Wichita: the Magic City, and the Spirit of Wichita.

These core exhibits are central to telling our story and are subject to reinterpretation, redesign, and the addition of artifacts from the Museum’s collection.
